As Assistant Managing Editor for the Journal of Economic Perspectives, work closely with the Managing Editor on all aspects of planning and production. Develop and play-test new workflows to improve the production process. Copyedit and proofread mansucripts and shepherd them through to publication, collaborating with authors, academic editors, web editors, and prepress. Obsess over process.

Freelance Science Writer & Editor (2018–2019) 

Copyedited science manuscripts for research publications including the Nature US Research Journals. Performed ongoing development of communications strategy for Dr. Steven Reppert, distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Annual Reviews (2012–2018) 

Coordinated production and copyedited content as Production Editor of the Annual Review of Virology and the Annual Review of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Planned and ran yearly Editorial Committee meetings for both. Proofread articles for other Annual Reviews journals. Geeked out simultaneously on science and grammar.

Free-range science-writing maven. Covered biology, biotech, biomed, and the occasional natural disaster for clients including Nature, Discover Magazine, MIT Technology Review, and CR Magazine.

ScienceBlogs Intern extraordinaire. Helped wrangle a stable of 65+ lovable, opinionated science bloggers. Did my part to keep things up and running.

Editorial Intern and Mars Rover Savant. Reported on giant insects, toxic toys, and genome transplants. Reviewed books, documentaries, and nefarious remote-controlled flying bats.

Chased monarch butterflies in Michoacán, Mexico, and monarch biologists in Worcester, Massachusetts. Earned a master’s degree in science writing.

Forced E. coli to evolve according to my whims in Rob Dorit’s microbiology lab. Graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biological sciences, including an award-winning honors thesis, and a minor in chemistry.
